Changes to Facebook Algorithm for Businesses, Brands and Media in 2018

New changes for Facebook algorithm announced today by Mark Zuckerberg are going to be game changing for brands and businesses.

The Facebook news feed will no longer feature content from pages. This space will be reserved for posts by your friends.

This change is an attempt to bring Facebook back to the connections and community that made the social network so popular in the first place. Facebook is becoming saturated by posts from pages. According to recent statistics cited by Zuckerberg, the content filling up our news feeds is “crowding out the personal moments from friends and family that lead us to connect more with each other.”

Facebook’s solution to this problem? They will be removing the posts from businesses, brands, and media for good! It is expected that they will be added to a separated section titled “Explore” as they had reported late last year.

What does this mean for marketers and business owners? This is likely the end of free post distribution for pages, expect to see your organic reach drop down even further this year. We are still expecting that Facebook will allow pages to advertise their way onto users’ feeds, but we’ll have to wait to see.  Check back soon, we’ll be sure to post an update on this when things start happening.

Businesses will have to totally re-adjust their social media strategy to combat these changes in distribution of their content. We’ve seen the Facebook algorithm affect our reach firsthand, as posts get less reach gradually over the years, but this is the end of the road folks. It looks like we’ll be crafting new strategies to reach a new audience in 2018, but that’s not a problem, just a new challenge.
